The pace and scale of social, technological, environmental, economic, and political change that underpins the operating environment makes looking into the future more uncertain and complex. In turn, it is much harder to reach consensus on the way ahead. Our openness to foresight, new change models, and collaboration to help create flexible and resilient responses is increasingly critical.

To support clients in this endeavour, I design and facilitate learning events and workshops to focus on exploring the emerging future and can deliver four tailorable executive training events that:

  1. Focus on foresight and how it can provide a platform for teams to actively engage with future uncertainty;
  2. Explore the integration of established change and foresight methodologies to enable effective, sustainable, and human-centred organisational change;
  3. Consider the enablers and barriers to effective collaborative working and partnership; and
  4. Are designed to adress a specific client issue through completely bespoke workshop design.

All three executive training topics can be tailored to provide bespoke content, structure, and outcomes and delivered as a keynote speech or presentation, a short session seminar or masterclass, a full executive training program, or through direct project support. The full executive training programs are described below.

Foresight for a Reinvented Future

This executive training program is designed for leaders with an interest in and need to make sense of the emerging future. Delivered in person or virtually, the programme explores the foresight skills required for organisations to make future ready decisions, today.

The programme is delivered over two full day or four half day sessions and builds on a number of foresight techniques such as trend analysis, driver mapping, horizon scanning, cross impact analysis, and scenario development. With an approach that includes a mix of presentation, plenary discussion sessions, and break-out group work, delegates get hands on experience of using the tools and are immersed in the potential changes to enable exploration of new responses and solutions.

Delegate Feedback

“The foresight scenario planning was insightful, practical and thought-provoking. Highly recommend for anyone looking to enhance their strategic thinking skills.”

“Steve has an impressive way of explaining the framework while providing relatable examples to drive the point.”

“I have learnt entirely new side of planning which I have never thought possible to be done in a systematic / structured way that will engage my critical thinking and foresight skills."

Leading Change with Foresight – Enabling Future Readiness

How do you avoid falling into the trap of changing for today and not tomorrow? It was John F Kennedy, the 35th U.S. President, who said “Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future.” Leading Change with Foresight is an Executive Education and Development short program that combines established change and foresight methodologies to help organisations embark on future ready and sustainable change initiatives.

The program is interactive and includes presentation, group work, and plenary discussion to support experiential and collaborative learning. The aim is to help develop capability in integrating human-focused change models and frameworks with foresight, by using the appropriate tools and approaches so that change initiatives are your people and future ready.

Delegate Feedback

“It was a really good style of learning - going in and out of breakout rooms for short bursts kept it light and relevant, while also covering a lot of material.”

“Really interesting topic, two concepts I'd never considered coming together but I can now see how important it is to think of the people at the heart of the issue as they are probably the main point of failure.”

“Steve set a positive tone and environment and facilitated well and clearly adapted the content depending on the needs of the group.”

Collaborative Working and Partnership

Working collaboratively or in partnership is increasingly seen as a critical enabler to both understanding the nature of complex problems, an uncertain future, and developing ideas to assess opportunities and counter risks.

So in this new program, we will draw on my own research into partnership and collaborative working, consider different forms of collaboration, the enablers and barriers to successful collaboration, and consider how to assess an organisation’s ability to collaborate effectively.

Bespoke Foresight Workshops

My bespoke workshops are designed for forward-thinking organisations, business owners, and professionals eager to navigate the emerging future of their business sector.

These hands on workshops are tailored to equip delegates with the expertise to identify, classify, and analyse both prominent trends and the subtler, less certain indicators of change across the critical domains of social, technological, economic, environmental, political, and legal/regulatory landscapes. Through collaborative efforts, participants will engage in a dynamic learning environment, fostering a deep understanding of how these diverse factors intertwine to shape the future. My methodological approach encourages hands-on interaction, enabling delegates to not only grasp but also apply the principles of foresight.

The culmination of the workshops varies based on the group's dynamics and the sector's unique challenges, ranging from detailed trend analysis and cross-impact assessments to the development of plausible future scenarios. Each outcome is crafted to provide actionable insights, empowering participants to make informed choices now that help position their organisations for future success.
